Another Political Giant Falls: Shehu Shagari dies at 93


Ex President Alhaji Shehu Shagari dies in Abuja.

After a very brief illness, the former president who ruled Nigeria from 1979 – 1983.

Shagari’s grandson Bell reportedly annouced the death of his grandfather via social media.

He died at the National Hospital Abuja on Friday at the age of 93.

Shagari was a Nigerian politician and school teacher who served as the first and only President of Nigeria‘s Second Republic (1979–1983), after the handover of power by General Olusegun Obasanjo‘s military government. Shagari also served seven times in a ministerial or cabinet post as a federal minister and federal commissioner from 1958–1975.
